Anyone can type ®, ✔ or ☑ into a channel name. Telegram’s real badge is a blue rosette drawn by the app after the name, and it disappears if the owner renames the channel.
- @BBCNews_ChannelCalls itself “The offical channel of www.bbc.com” with 216 subscribers and no badge. The BBC’s verified channels are @bbcpersian and @bbcrussian.
- @WSJ_Official“The Wall Street Journal” with 723 subscribers, no badge, and a last post warning that its owner has been inactive for a month.
- @worldnewsA 34.8K aggregator, not a newsroom: no badge, no named publisher, and the bio says the username is for sale.
- Fake “Euronews Romania”In June 2025 Euronews reported a channel using its branding to spread false claims. Euronews Romania has no Telegram channel at all.
How can you rate any news channel in 30 seconds?
Open the channel’s info page, tick what you can confirm, and watch the needle. Without the badge, a channel cannot reach green.
Treat it as a copy until proven otherwise.

What does the blue check on a Telegram channel mean?
It means Telegram confirmed the channel belongs to the public figure or organisation it names. Applicants go through @VerifyBot and need verified accounts elsewhere plus press coverage. It is not an endorsement of the content.
Why does a channel have a small logo before its name?
