Which kind of link do you need?
Telegram has four ways to put a link in a message. They are joined like a chain: each one adds a little more control. Pick a link.
Paste the full address
Telegram turns a web address into a link by itself when you send it. Start it with https:// and it always works.
Anyone, in every app, in chats, groups, channels and captions.
How do you turn words into a hyperlink on each app?
Same idea everywhere: select, choose the link option, paste the address. Only the menu names change. Pick your app and step through it.
Bold, italic, spoiler, quotes and the other styles sit in the same menu. They have their own guide: bold, italic and every other text style on Telegram.
How do you control the link preview?
When a message holds a web address, Telegram builds a preview card before you send. Tap the preview strip above the text box (Desktop: click it) and you can move it, resize its picture, choose which link it shows, or drop it.

The labels above are the real ones from Telegram for Android and Desktop. Telegram stores previews, so a changed page can keep showing an old title or picture. Site owners can send the address to Telegram’s @WebpageBot to refresh it.
What does each part of a t.me link mean?
t.me links open straight inside Telegram: a profile, a post, an invite, a bot. Pick a type and read the address piece by piece. Names like yourchannel are examples.
Why isn’t my link clickable?

Common, easy fix
The app has to spot the address itself
In messages, Telegram’s servers mark addresses for you. Bios and channel descriptions carry no such marks, so each app looks for addresses on its own. Telegram Desktop only links a bare address there if its ending is on a built-in list of 316 endings: country codes plus .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .pro and a few more. Endings such as .app, .dev, .shop or .xyz stay plain text.
Fix: write https:// in front of the address. With a protocol in front, any ending is linked.
Is a hidden link safe to tap?
A text link can say one thing and go somewhere else. That is why Telegram stops and asks “Open this link?” before it opens a hidden address. Read the address in that box, not the words in the message.

The real site is the name just before the first single slash: gift-claim.example. Everything to its left is decoration, even when it says telegram.org.
- Hidden links ask firstAndroid shows “Do you want to open …?”, iPhone “Open …?”, Desktop “Open this link?” with the domain in bold.
- Mixed alphabets are markedTelegram Desktop highlights letters from a different alphabet than the rest of the address.
- Telegram’s own sites skip itDesktop does not ask for hidden links to telegram.org, telegra.ph and a few other Telegram domains. t.me is deliberately left off that list.
- Ctrl+click skips itOn Desktop, holding Ctrl while clicking opens the link without the question. Only do that for senders you trust.

Will anyone see the link in your channel post?
A link only gets taps from people who see the post. If a new channel’s posts look empty, our post views package adds 1,000 views across your last 10 posts for $1. It raises the view counter. It does not click your links or bring buyers by itself.

How do I hyperlink text in Telegram?
Select the words in the message box. On Android open the three-dot menu and tap Create Link, on iPhone tap Format then Link, on Telegram Desktop press Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on a Mac). Paste the address, confirm and send.
What is the keyboard shortcut for a link in Telegram Desktop?
Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux, Cmd+K on a Mac. Select the words first. The same box lets you edit or remove the link later.
Can I type [text](url) to make a link in Telegram?
Only in Telegram Web A, which converts that Markdown when you type it. The Android, iPhone and Desktop apps do not, so use their link menu instead. Bots can use the same syntax through the MarkdownV2 parse mode.
Why is my link not clickable in Telegram?
Usually the address contains a space or line break, sits inside monospace formatting, or is in a bio or channel description without https:// in front. Remove the break, take off the monospace, or add https://. In groups, admins can also switch off links for members.
How do I remove the link preview in Telegram?
Before sending, tap the preview strip above the message box and choose Do Not Preview, or tap the cross on it. After sending, edit the message and remove the preview the same way.
How do I copy a link to a Telegram message?
Long-press the message (right-click on Desktop) and choose Copy Link. In public channels and groups the link works for everyone. In private ones it has the form t.me/c/ and opens only for members.
Can I add a link to a photo or video caption?
Yes. Captions accept the same formatting as messages, including text links. Select words in the caption field and use the same link option.
Why does Telegram ask “Open this link?”
Because the link was hidden behind words, so you could not see the address before tapping. The box shows the real address. Check the domain before you tap Open.
