One app, several identities
How do you add multiple Telegram accounts?
Open Telegram, go to Settings, tap Edit and choose Add Another Account (on Android: open the menu, tap the arrow next to your name, then Add Account). Enter the second phone number and the login code. Every app holds 3 accounts for free. Phones allow a 4th when any connected account has Telegram Premium, and Telegram Desktop and Web A add one slot per Premium account, up to 6.
How many Telegram accounts can you have in one app?
Three, in every Telegram app. What Premium adds depends on the app: phones stop at four, while the computer apps keep adding slots. Move the slider to see it.
With no Premium account, every app holds 3 accounts.
Telegram’s Premium announcement says you can “add a fourth account to any Telegram app”. The app code shows more. Telegram Desktop calculates its limit as 3 plus the number of logged-in Premium accounts, capped at 6, and Telegram Web A uses the same rule. The iPhone and Android apps unlock the 4th slot as soon as any connected account has Premium; it does not have to be the one you are adding.
- Desktop
kMaxAccounts = 3, kPremiumMaxAccounts = 6 - Android
getMaxAccountCount(): hasPremiumOnAccounts() - Web A
limit[0] + premiumCount, clamped to 6
How do you add a second account, step by step?
Pick your app. You need the new account’s phone number and access to its login code, which arrives in Telegram on any device where that account is already logged in, or by SMS.
- Open SettingsTap the Settings tab at the bottom right.
- Tap EditTop right corner. Scroll to Add Another Account. Once you have two accounts, an Add Account row also appears under your name in Settings.
- Enter the numberChoose the country and type the second phone number.
- Enter the codeCheck Telegram on another device where that account is open, or wait for the SMS. Add the two-step verification password if the account has one.
- DoneThe new account opens at once. Your first account stays logged in.
- Open the menuTap the three lines at the top left of the chat list.
- Show your accountsTap the small arrow next to your name and number.
- Tap Add AccountIf you see a limit message, you already have 3 accounts and none of them has Premium.
- Number and codeType the second number, then the code from Telegram or SMS, and the two-step password if one is set.
- DoneThe new account appears in the same menu list. Tap any name to switch.
- Open the menuClick the three lines at the top left of Telegram Desktop.
- Expand your accountsClick the arrow beside your name, then Add Account.
- Scan or typeScan the QR code with the phone where the new account is logged in (Settings › Devices › Link Desktop Device), or log in with the phone number.
- DoneSwitch from the same menu. Need two accounts side by side in separate windows? Our guide to multiple accounts on PC covers that.
- Open Web AGo to web.telegram.org/a and log in with your first account.
- Open the menuClick the three lines at the top left, then Add Account.
- Log in againWeb A opens a fresh login screen in a new account slot. Scan the QR code or use the number.
- DoneSwitch from the same menu. Each slot has its own address (it ends in ?account=2 and so on), so you can also keep accounts open in separate tabs.
Accounts do not copy between apps. Adding a second account on your phone does not add it to Telegram Desktop; add it separately in each app where you want it.
What is the fastest way to switch between accounts?
Every app has a menu switch, but each also hides a shortcut. These are the quickest ones.
Press and hold the Settings tab
A list of your accounts pops up over the tab bar. Slide to the one you want and lift your finger.
Hold the app icon
On the home screen, the quick action Switch Account shows your other account’s name and opens Telegram already switched.
Menu, then a name
Open the side menu and tap a name. Telegram remembers whether you left the account list open, so next time it is one tap.
Separate windows or tabs
Web A gives each account its own address, so you can pin one tab per account and switch by changing tabs. Telegram Desktop switches in one window from the menu; for side-by-side windows see the PC guide.
Do you need a different phone number for each account?
Yes. One number equals one account, so a second account needs a second number. Tap the kind of number you have in mind.
A number you keep paying for is the safest base
You receive codes by SMS whenever you log in on a new device, and you can recover the account if every session is lost. A second SIM or an eSIM on the same phone is enough.
Risk of losing the account: low
Will you get notifications from every account?
By default, yes: all logged-in accounts notify you, and each alert carries the account’s name. One switch limits alerts to the account you have open.
Tip. Keep the switch on and mute noisy chats per account instead. You will still see a work emergency while reading personal chats.
How do you remove one account without losing the others?
Log out of that account only. The other accounts in the app are not touched, and the account itself is not deleted.
- iPhoneSwitch to the account, then Settings › Edit › Log Out. Or swipe left on it in the account list in Settings.
- AndroidSwitch to the account, open Settings, tap the three dots at the top right, then Log Out.
- DesktopSwitch to it, open Settings, click the three dots, then Log out.
What stays
- Your other accounts in this app
- The account on your other devices
- All cloud chats, groups and channels
- Your username and contacts
What goes
- Secret chats of that account on this device
- Its local media cache in this app
- Its notifications on this device
“Removing an account here deletes it everywhere.” Logging out only ends this one session. Deleting an account is a separate action in Privacy and Security.
Which multi-account setup fits you?
Three common situations and the settings that make each one painless.
Freelancer or small business
Keep clients on the work number so you can mute it after hours without hiding family chats. Leave All Accounts on, then mute the work account’s groups per chat in the evening.
- Different profile photo per account
- Two-step verification on both
Channel or group owner
Run the channel from a separate admin account and add your personal account as a second admin. If one account is ever lost, you can still run the channel.
- Never make an unrecoverable number the only owner
- Keep the admin account logged in on two devices
Privacy-first user
Use a Fragment anonymous number for the second account, set its phone number visibility to Nobody, and turn on a passcode. The passcode locks the whole app, every account inside it.
- Back up the Fragment wallet that holds the number
Running a channel from your second account?
A new channel with a handful of subscribers is hard to trust. AddTelegramMember adds members to public channels and groups with only the public link; we never ask for your login or a code.
What else do people ask about multiple Telegram accounts?
Can I have two Telegram accounts on one phone?
Yes. The official app holds up to 3 accounts at once with different phone numbers, and 4 when any of them has Telegram Premium. You switch between them without logging out.
How many Telegram accounts can I have with Premium?
On iPhone, iPad and Android the limit is 4 if at least one connected account has Premium. Telegram Desktop and Telegram Web A add one slot for every Premium account you log in, up to 6.
Can I use the same phone number for two accounts?
No. Each Telegram account is tied to one phone number, so a second account needs a second number, such as another SIM, an eSIM or a Fragment anonymous number.
Do my accounts appear on my other devices automatically?
No. Each app keeps its own list of logged-in accounts. Add the second account separately on every phone or computer where you want it.
Can I get notifications only from the account I am using?
Yes. Go to Settings, Notifications and Sounds, and turn off All Accounts. Telegram then notifies you only for the active account.
Does a passcode protect every account in the app?
Yes. The passcode lock in Privacy and Security locks the whole app, so all accounts inside it are covered. Two-step verification, in contrast, is set separately for each account.
What happens if I log out of one account?
Only that account leaves this app. Its cloud chats stay on Telegram’s servers and on your other devices, your other accounts stay logged in, and you lose only that account’s secret chats on this device.
Is it allowed to have several Telegram accounts?
Yes. Telegram built account switching into its apps and its FAQ says you can log in to one app with several accounts at once. Using extra accounts to send spam is what gets accounts limited.
Which guides go with multiple accounts?
How we checked this guide. On 25 October 2026 we read the account limit code in Telegram Desktop, Telegram for Android, Telegram for iOS and Telegram Web A, and compared it with Telegram’s Premium announcement, the Telegram FAQ and the anonymous numbers announcement. Written by the AddTelegramMember team, a Telegram growth service since 2019.
