What is Telegram’s Aggressive Anti-Spam feature?
Aggressive Anti-Spam is an on/off switch for admins of large Telegram groups. When it is on, Telegram’s own filter, which appears as the Telegram Anti-Spam account, deletes messages it judges to be spam and records every deletion in Recent Actions, where admins can mark mistakes with Report False Positive. You find it in Group Info > Administrators.

Can you turn Aggressive Anti-Spam on in your group?
Three things decide whether the switch works or shows a lock. Set them for your group and the panel tells you why.

Your group is below the size Telegram requires. At launch the minimum was 200 members.
The apps read the minimum from Telegram’s servers and show a lock below it. It was 200 members when the switch launched in December 2022; Telegram can change it without an app update.
The switch only reacts for admins who are allowed to delete messages.
Members cannot post in either, so there is nothing to filter. Comments live in the linked discussion group, which can use it.
How do you turn on Aggressive Anti-Spam?
Pick your app. Each dot is one tap.
Telegram will filter more spam but may occasionally affect ordinary messages. You can report False Positives in Recent Actions.
The switch sits at the top of the Administrators screen, above the list of admins.
What does the filter catch, and what does it leave alone?
Telegram does not publish its rules. What is documented is where the filter works and how it reports; the examples below show the kind of message each outcome is meant for.
Fake giveaways, “double your crypto” offers, wallet-connect links and the same promo pasted into many groups.

Telegram’s own warning: it “may occasionally affect ordinary messages”. New members sharing their channel are the usual victims.

How do you check for false positives?
Every deletion by the filter is logged, but only for 48 hours. A short daily look is enough for most groups.

Try it: tap the logged message.
- Open the group’s settings (Edit on phones, Manage group on desktop), then Recent Actions.
- Use the filter to show only Deleted messages.
- Long-press (right-click on desktop) an entry by Telegram Anti-Spam and choose Report False Positive.
- Tell the member it was the filter, not an admin, and ask them to post again.
What else should you combine with Aggressive Anti-Spam?
The filter is one layer. Spam that gets past one layer should hit the next. Tap a layer to see the setting.
Gate: decide who gets in
Turn on Approve New Members so people join only after an admin, or a bot, accepts them. For a public group this lives in the group type settings; for invite links, edit the link and require approval.
Newer apps also offer a Process Join Requests admin right for bots, so a captcha bot can approve joiners for you.

Why did my message disappear from a group?
For members, not admins. Match what you saw to the cause.
If the group uses Aggressive Anti-Spam, the filter can remove a post that looks promotional, often a first message with a link. You get no notice in the chat. Ask an admin to check Recent Actions; they can report it as a false positive. Then post again without the link.
Questions admins ask about Telegram anti-spam
Is Aggressive Anti-Spam a bot I need to add?
No. It is built into Telegram. When you switch it on, an account called Telegram Anti-Spam appears in your admin list, but it is not a member and you do not add or promote it yourself.
Why is the Aggressive Anti-Spam switch locked?
Either the group is below the size Telegram requires, which was 200 members at launch, or your admin account lacks the Delete messages right. It is also missing in channels and broadcast groups.
Does Telegram read my group messages to filter spam?
Group messages on Telegram are cloud messages, not end-to-end encrypted, so Telegram’s servers already process them. The filter runs on those servers. Secret chats are one-to-one and are not part of groups.
Can I restore a message the filter deleted?
No. Recent Actions shows the text for 48 hours so you can judge it, and you can report a false positive, but the apps have no restore option. Ask the member to send it again.
Does reporting a false positive change anything?
Your report goes to Telegram’s moderators, and the app confirms it with “Telegram moderators will review your report.” Telegram’s developer documentation says these reports are how admins flag mistaken deletions.
Should I still use an anti-spam bot?
Yes, if you need rules Telegram does not offer, such as a captcha for new members, link whitelists or warnings. Give the bot only the rights it needs, usually Delete messages and Ban users.
Is this the same as @SpamBot?
No. @SpamBot tells you whether your own account is limited, for example when you can only message mutual contacts. Aggressive Anti-Spam protects a group from other people’s spam.
