Can you change the font in Telegram?
Only on Telegram Desktop. Since version 5.0 (May 2024) you can pick any font installed on your computer in Settings › Chat Settings › Font family. The Android, iPhone and web apps keep their own typeface, but every app lets you make text bigger or smaller, and the formatting you add (bold, italic, monospace and more) is what other people actually see.

What can you change in each Telegram app?
Telegram treats “font” as three separate things: the typeface (the font family), the text size, and the whole interface scale. Here is what each official app allows today.
Telegram Desktop

Every app
Bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, monospace, spoiler, quote and links are sent with the message, so the reader sees them in their app’s font.
How do you make Telegram text bigger or smaller?
Pick your app, follow the proof marks, and drag the slider to see roughly how a message bubble changes across that app’s real range.
Open Settings (the menu ☰, then Settings).
Tap Chat Settings.
Drag the Message text size slider. The preview chat above it updates as you go.
Instant View articles keep their own size: open an article, tap Aa and set it there.
Range 12 to 30. Default 16 on phones, 18 on tablets.
Short on time? The phone apps and Telegram Desktop have a search box in Settings. Type text size on a phone or font on Desktop to jump straight to the right row.
How do you choose a different font on Telegram Desktop?
Open Settings › Chat Settings and click Font family, just below Auto-night mode. A window called Choose font family lists every font on your computer with a live chat preview. Try the same idea here:

Default is the font Telegram ships with (Open Sans). System font uses your operating system’s interface font. Any other name is a font installed on your computer, so the list is different on every machine.
Interface scale sits on the main Settings screen: switch off Default interface scale and drag the slider from 50% up to 300% (200% on Retina and other high-density screens). Use it when everything, not only the text, feels too small.
Do other people see the font you choose?
No. A font setting only changes your screen. What travels with a message is its formatting, and the reader’s app draws it in its own typeface. Flip the sheet to compare.

Should you use “fancy font” generators in Telegram?
Websites that promise new Telegram fonts do not change any font. They swap your letters for look-alike Unicode symbols, such as the “mathematical bold” alphabet. Test what that does to a word:

Does your phone’s font setting change Telegram?
Partly, and it differs between Android and iPhone. This is where most “my text didn’t get bigger” complaints come from.
Android: two system settings
Telegram for Android sizes message text from its own slider, measured in screen-density units, so the Android Font size setting barely touches chat bubbles. Display size (Screen zoom on Samsung) changes the density itself, so all of Telegram grows. Regular message text is drawn in the phone’s default typeface, so a phone font style can carry into it, while some bold labels use a Roboto file built into the app.

By default Telegram follows the iOS text size from Settings › Display & Brightness › Text Size. To pick a size only for Telegram, go to Telegram Settings › Appearance › Text Size and switch off Use System Text Size.
Where else does Telegram let you pick a font?
Two places offer a real choice of typeface, but neither changes your chats.
Serif or sans for long reads
Open any Instant View article and tap Aa. On Android you choose Default or Serif and a separate text size from 12 to 30. On iPhone the choice is San Francisco or Georgia.
Text you put on media
The text tool in the media editor has its own typefaces. On Android the list includes Roboto, Serif, Merriweather and Courier New. Telegram Desktop added a text tool with fonts, alignment and styles to its image editor in September 2026.
That text becomes part of the image, so everyone sees exactly the font you chose.
Which font tips online are wrong?
“You can’t change the font anywhere in Telegram.”Telegram Desktop has had a Font family setting since version 5.0 in May 2024.“Monospace is how you change the font on your phone.”Monospace is formatting for code and copyable text. Questions people ask about Telegram fonts
Can I change the font style in Telegram on Android?
Not inside Telegram. The Android app uses your phone’s typeface. You can change the text size in Settings › Chat Settings, and a system font style set on your phone can carry into regular message text.
How do I change the font on Telegram for iPhone?
You can’t change the typeface, which is always the iOS system font. You can change its size in Settings › Appearance › Text Size, either following the iPhone setting or with your own size.
Where is the font setting in Telegram Desktop?
Settings › Chat Settings › Font family. Pick Default, System font or any installed font, click Save, and Telegram restarts with the new font.
How do I reset Telegram Desktop to the original font?
Open Settings › Chat Settings › Font family again, choose Default and save. Default is Open Sans, the font Telegram ships with.
Will my friends see the font I picked?

Why did my Telegram text not get bigger after I changed Android’s font size?
Telegram for Android sizes chat text with its own slider. Use Settings › Chat Settings › Message text size, or raise Android’s Display size if you want the whole app larger.
Are fancy font generators safe to use in Telegram?
They are not harmful to your account, but the result is made of special symbols. People can’t find it by search, screen readers may not read it, and usernames reject it.
How do I make text bigger on Telegram Web?
Open the menu, go to Settings › General Settings and move the Text Size slider (12 to 20). Browser zoom with Ctrl and plus, or Cmd and plus on a Mac, enlarges the whole page.
