How do you report a scammer on Telegram?
Take screenshots first, then use the Report button inside Telegram: long-press (iPhone) or tap (Android) the scam message, or right-click it on Desktop, choose Report, pick the closest reason and add a short comment. To report the whole account, open its profile, tap ⋮ or … and choose Report. If someone is pretending to be you, message @NoToScam. Then block them.
- Report buttonthe main route, in every app
- @NoToScamwhen someone copies you
- Evidence firstthey can delete the chat
What happened to you?
- Screenshot the chat with the username visible.
- Tap or long-press a scam message, choose Report.
- Open their profile, choose Report, then Block.
Where should each kind of scam be reported?
Telegram has one main route and a few special ones. Pick what happened and the board connects it to the right place.
What about abuse@telegram.org? Telegram’s moderation page calls it an automated takedown address used by organisations to report illegal content. It still works, but for a scam you met in a chat, the Report button sends the actual messages to moderators and is faster to use.
How do you report a scam message or account in each app?
The Report button sits in the same place in every chat type. These are the exact taps.
- 1Screenshot before anything else
Capture the messages with the name and @username visible at the top. A scammer can delete the chat for both of you later.
- 2Tap the scam message
A menu opens under the message. Choose Report. One clear message is enough. The profile report in step 5 covers the account.
- 3Pick the closest reason
Telegram’s servers send the reason list step by step, so it can look different in a group, a channel or a private chat. Choose the option that matches best, such as scam or spam, then any sub-option.
- 4Add one line of context
Write what they asked for, for example “asked for my login code” or “took 200 USDT, no delivery”. Then send.
- 5Report the profile and block
Open their profile, tap ⋮, choose Report, then Block user. For a group or channel, open its info page and use the same menu.
Need the full reason list, reporting a whole group or what to do in the EU? The guide on reporting someone on Telegram covers every report type. This page stays on scams.
What evidence should you save before you block?
Blocking is the last step, not the first. Once they delete the chat, your proof is gone. Tick off what you have.
Start with the screenshots. They take ten seconds.
How can you tell a Telegram account is a scammer?
Tap the numbered marks on this sample chat. Each one is a pattern Telegram users report again and again.
Your account will be deleted in 24 hours for a copyright violation.
To keep it, send the 5-digit code we just sent you.
Or verify here: telegram-secure-check.app
Anyone can name an account “Telegram Support”. Real Telegram accounts show a verified checkmark, and the account that sends your login codes is the official Telegram service chat. Telegram support does not open chats to threaten you.
Scam label. Telegram marks the account or channel itself. Its API describes it as “This may be a scam user”.
Fake label. Shown when an account “was reported by many users as a fake or scam user”. This is where your reports add up.
Verified checkmark. Given by Telegram to real public figures and organisations. A checkmark emoji in the name is not the same thing.
Third-party verification. Since January 2025, approved organisations can verify accounts. A small logo appears before the name and the profile explains it.
Read the card above the first message. Since March 2025, when someone outside your contacts writes to you, Telegram shows the country of their phone number, when they joined, the groups you share, recent name or photo changes and their verification status before you reply. A brand new account claiming years of history is a strong warning sign.
Which Telegram scams are most common in 2026?
The wanted board. Filter by what reached you. Each poster ends with the one move that stops it.
Investment and “signal” groups
A group full of happy members posts screenshots of profits, then a friendly admin messages you about a private fund. Small withdrawals work at first. The big one needs a “fee” or “tax”.
Usually reaches you through: a group you were added to, then a private message from an “admin”.
Stop it: a real investment never asks for a fee to release your own money.
Fake Telegram support
Warns that your account will be deleted and asks for the login code or a password.
Stop it: the code message itself says not to give it to anyone, even Telegram.
Fake “verify you are human” bots
A channel gate bot tells you to paste a command into your computer. In early 2025 this spread malware through fake “Safeguard” bots.
Stop it: no Telegram check ever needs you to run a command.
Fake sellers
Phones, tickets, gift cards, Premium or Stars at prices too good to pass up, payable only in crypto or by friends-and-family transfer.
Stop it: pay only where you have buyer protection.
Cloned channels and fake admins
A copy of a channel you follow, same name and photo, with one letter changed in the @username. Its “admin” messages members with a giveaway, a job or a payment link. Channel owners are often the first to hear about it from their subscribers.
Stop it: check the @username, not the name. Owners: report the clone in the app and through @NoToScam, and pin your real links.
Task jobs
Paid to like videos or rate hotels. The first tasks pay, then you must deposit to unlock “premium tasks”.
Stop it: a job that asks you to pay in is not a job.
Gift and giveaway traps
“You won Premium” or “send your gift to check it”, with a link to a fake login page.
Stop it: never log in to Telegram through a link someone sent you.
QR login tricks
A “scan to join” QR code that is really a Telegram login code, linking their computer to your account.
Stop it: only scan login QR codes you opened yourself, on your own computer.
What happens after you report a scammer on Telegram?
Your report joins a case file. You usually will not get a message about the result, but these are the outcomes Telegram describes.
The reported messages go to moderators with your reason and comment.
Telegram combines user reports with machine-learning and AI moderation tools.
Email abuse@telegram.org and wait for a reply.
Fact: it is an automated takedown address. Use the Report button for scams in your chats.
@NoToScam handles every scam report.
Fact: Telegram’s FAQ points to it for impersonation, when a scammer pretends to be you.
Reporting gets your money back.
Fact: reports stop the account. Recovering money goes through your bank, exchange or police.
Scale check: on 25 October 2026, Telegram’s moderation page listed 28,519,174 groups and channels blocked so far in 2026, for all rule violations, not only scams.
What should you do if you already paid or shared your code?
Speed matters more than the report. Work through the columns left to right.
- Gave a code or scanned a QR? Settings › Devices › Terminate all other sessions.
- Turn on Settings › Privacy and Security › Two-Step Verification with a new password and a recovery email.
- Paid by card or bank? Call your bank’s fraud line now. Card payments can sometimes be stopped or disputed.
- Report the messages and the profile in Telegram, then block.
- Paid in crypto? Send the transaction hash to the exchange you sent from. Some exchanges can flag the receiving address.
- Warn your contacts if your account was used to message them.
- File a police report with your evidence. US: ic3.gov. UK: Report Fraud (it replaced Action Fraud in 2026). Elsewhere: your national police cybercrime unit.
- Ignore “recovery agents” who contact you. Promising to get stolen crypto back for a fee is a second scam.
Which settings stop most scammers from reaching you?
Switch each one on to see where it lives. The shield fills as you go.
Turn on a setting to see its exact path.
Pin a message with your only real @username and admin list, and tell members you will never ask them for money in private messages. Turn on Aggressive Anti-Spam in groups. Print this page as a one-page checklist for your moderators.
Questions about reporting Telegram scammers
What is the fastest way to report a scammer on Telegram?
Use the Report button in the app. Tap or long-press one of their messages, choose Report, pick the closest reason and add a short comment. Then open their profile, report it and block them.
Is @NoToScam the official Telegram scam bot?
Yes. Telegram’s own FAQ tells you to contact @NoToScam if a scammer is pretending to be you. For other scams, the in-app Report button is the main route.
Should I email abuse@telegram.org?
You can, but Telegram describes it as an automated takedown address for illegal content. For a scam in your chats, the Report button sends the actual messages to moderators and is quicker.
Does the scammer know I reported them?
No. Telegram does not tell the reported account who reported it. If you also block them, they lose your online status and profile photo updates.
What does the Fake label on a Telegram account mean?
Telegram adds it when many users report an account as a fake or scam. The Scam label is Telegram’s own marking that the account may be a scammer. Do not send money or codes to either.
Can Telegram get my money back from a scammer?
No. Telegram can limit or ban the account, but it cannot reverse payments. Contact your bank or the exchange you paid from quickly, and file a police report with your evidence.
Should I block the scammer before or after reporting?
After. Take screenshots, report the messages and the profile, then block. If you block and delete the chat first, you lose the evidence you may need for your bank or the police.
I gave my login code to a scammer. What now?
Open Settings › Devices and terminate all other sessions, then turn on Two-Step Verification with a new password and a recovery email. If you are already locked out, sign in again on your phone number as soon as possible and do the same.
