What kinds of media can you send on Telegram?
Ten kinds of cargo leave from three buttons: the paperclip, the microphone and the emoji panel. Filter the manifest by how you would use them.

Should you send it as a photo, in HD or as a file?
Telegram treats the same picture three different ways. Pick what you care about and the right chute lights up.

How do you send photos, videos and files step by step?
The route is the same everywhere: open the chat, attach, choose quality, send. The buttons sit in different places on each app.

Any private chat, group or channel where you are allowed to post.
- 2Tap the paperclip
Bottom left of the message field. Your recent photos and videos appear in a grid.
- 3Select one or several
Tap the circle on each item. Choose up to 10 to send them as one album.
- 4Set the quality
Tap a photo to open the editor, then tap SD so it reads HD. For the original, go back and choose File.
- 5Add a caption and send
Hold the send button for Send Without Sound or Schedule Message.
Already sent the wrong photo? Since October 2024 you can edit a sent message to replace its media or add a photo, video or file to it. Editing the picture itself is explained in how to edit a photo on Telegram.
How big can a Telegram file be?
Each file can be up to 2 GB, or 4 GB with Telegram Premium. The exact ceiling is smaller than many people think, so weigh your file first.
Sizes as Windows and Android show them (1 GB = 1,024 MB).
Where does received media go?
Received media is stored in Telegram’s cloud and cached on your device when you open it. It only lands in your gallery or downloads folder when you save it, or when auto save is on.
Watching a video from a big channel? Videos posted to channels with thousands of subscribers come in several qualities. Pick High, Medium or Low with the gear icon, and Telegram asks which quality to keep when you save it.

Why won’t Telegram send or load my media?
Pick the message you are seeing. Each case file gives the cause and the fix.
The group’s admins turned media off
Since December 2022 admins can allow or block each type separately: photos, videos, files, music, voice messages, video messages, stickers and GIFs. Slow mode, or a restriction an admin set on you personally, can also block you.
Ask an admin, or send the media in a private chat instead.
How do you send media privately on Telegram?
Three seals control what happens after delivery. You can set the first two yourself in a private chat. The third belongs to group and channel owners.

Private chats. Photos and videos since September 2023, voice and video messages since January 2024. Opens one time, then it is gone.

Set by group and channel owners. Members cannot save, forward or copy anything posted there.
No seal stops a second phone taking a photo of the screen. Telegram’s own FAQ says screenshots cannot be detected reliably on every system.

Does Telegram reduce photo quality?
Yes, for photos sent the normal way. A standard photo is scaled so its longest side is 1,280 pixels, and an HD photo to 2,560 pixels. Send the picture as a file to keep the original resolution.
How do I send a photo in HD on Telegram?
Select the photo, open it in the editor and tap the SD button so it switches to HD, or choose Send In High Quality from the attachment menu. HD was added in June 2025.
How do I send a photo without compression on Telegram?
Send it as a file. On phones tap the paperclip, choose File and then Gallery, and pick the photo. The receiver gets the exact original, including its camera data.
What is the maximum file size on Telegram?
2 GB per file on a free account, which is exactly 2,097,152,000 bytes, and 4 GB per file with Telegram Premium. There is no limit on how many files you store.
Where are Telegram photos and videos saved?
In Telegram’s cloud, with a temporary cache on your device. They reach your gallery or downloads folder only when you save them or turn on auto save. Telegram Desktop downloads to the Telegram Desktop folder inside Downloads.
Why can’t I send photos in a Telegram group?
The admins have blocked that media type for members, slow mode is on, or an admin restricted your account in that group. Admins can switch each media type on or off separately.
Can I send a photo that disappears after it is viewed?
Yes, in private chats. Choose the photo, tap the timer icon and pick View Once. Voice and video messages can also be sent as view once.
Does Telegram remove location data from photos?
A photo sent the normal way is re-encoded, so it no longer carries the camera’s metadata. A photo sent as a file is delivered unchanged and can include GPS coordinates, so check it before sending.
